A Rock and a Hard Place: Finding and Using Legal Steroids
Anabolic steroids are always a temptation for bodybuilders and athletes, and if their use is managed correctly, steroids can provide impressive gains without causing long-term damage. We take a look at finding and obtaining legal steroids.
But for steroid users, the spectre of being caught always hangs over them. The fact of the matter is that unless they’re prescribed by a physician, steroids are illegal drugs. Most bodybuilders obtain steroids illegally, and there are legal consequences if you’re caught buying steroids, or with them in your possession without a prescription.
So, that leaves the option of legal steroids. This, of course, begs the question – ARE there legal steroids, and if so, what are they?
Buying Steroids Legally
To answer the question above, you need to define what you mean by ‘legal steroids’. And the answer is, if you live in the United States, ‘nothing, really’. The United States is one of (if not the most) militant nations when it comes to the regulation and criminalization of steroids and steroid use. The fact is, if you live in the United States and don’t have a prescription, there aren’t really any hormonal or prohormonal substances that you can legally buy, sell or possess.
However, the U.S. is somewhat unique in this process, and most countries are not as strict as the U.S. by a long shot. And as the U.S. continues to move towards an even more aggressive stance towards steroids, it doesn’t appear that things will change any time soon. With the passage in the House of Representatives of the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act, it looks as though the federal government’s stance on steroids is becoming even stricter, as the act grants the DEA widespread enforcement powers against non-prescription steroids.
By contrast, other nations are not nearly as restrictive. In many countries, for instance, it’s not illegal to possess or use steroids, only to purchase them without a prescription. In the United Kingdom and Canada, for example, steroids are legal to possess and use.
So, for users in the U.S., anyway, that leaves the question of purchasing legal steroids, so-called Designer Steroids or prohormones. In recent years, that included substances like Androstendiol (‘Andro’), Androstendione, and other similar substances. In some cases, it is still possible (for now) to obtain some of these elements, although that window is pretty small, and shrinking all the time. The reason why is because, as new designer steroids are developed (or old versions are dusted off and put into production), there is usually a span of time between the introduction of that new steroid, and it’s inclusion on the list of banned controlled substances.
When we talk about legal steroids these days, we’re really talking about supplements that stimulate production of hormones, primarily Testosterone, in the body. Steroid alternatives essentially work to get the body to increase its production of Testosterone, Nandrolone, or Dihydrostestosterone, using only the body’s natural production capabilities. This is typically accomplished through the use of a combination of herbs, nutrients and amino acids, all designed to maximize production of anabolic hormones within the body.
There are some precursor hormones that are still legal to use, and that may show some promise. For example DHEA, otherwise known as Dehydropiandrosterone is a legal precursor steroid hormone that increases production of Testosterone in the body. Effects of this steroid precursor are still not known, and studies on its effects have been mixed. Many users, however, have given it very positive reviews, and say it works well. DHEA is banned by the NFL and NCAA, among others, but it is currently not illegal.
There are other legal substances available today that also work to increase the body’s natural production of Testosterone and other steroid hormones. Some are a type of steroidal substance known as an aromatase inhibitor, which decreased Estrogen levels in the body, causing the body to increase its production of Testosterone. These are also currently legal, although various sporting bodies may have bans in place with regard to their use.
Otherwise, pretty much the only way to obtain legal steroids is through a prescription from a physician. If you have a legitimate need to use steroids, this shouldn’t be too much trouble. Unfortunately, most bodybuilders don’t qualify for steroids under normal medical guidelines.
So, if you want to use steroids legally, you best bet is to look into precursors like DHEA, or into aromatase inhibitors like Novadex XT or something similar. But before you use any of these substances, you should do your homework and speak with experts and people that you trust. There are a million companies on the internet that will sell you both legal and illegal steroids and performance enhancing drugs, and you need to be careful with all of them. So take your time, do your research, and figure out what works for you.
